Hi Ondra. Let’s start as we always do – tell our readers something about yourself.
Hi, my name is Ondřej Bortlík, I have the position of support in the eSuba.INTEL team, I am 22 years old and I study at University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
Many players come to Heroes of the Storm from a different title, whether it is a MOBA game or any other genre. What is your gaming past?
I came to Heroes of the Storm from WoT where I hadn’t had time to play in a team because of my school, so I played it just for fun. But before WoT there were very well-known titles like CS 1.6, CS:Source and WoW.
What motivated you to give everything to Heroes of the Storm and try to achieve something. Is it a coincidence that it was HotS what caught your interest?
I was motivated by Heroes of the Storm itself because I started to like the game. Although I had dealt with lags at the beginning, I played anyway. And then I came across pRayer’s stream and it was done.
Do you think that Heroes of the Storm has the chance to become one of the mainstream e-sport titles? What would have to happen?
It certainly has the chance. I think that the game would need more promotion because I believe that still many people don’t know it.
How is the game doing on the Czech scene now, is there something to play, online or offline? Or do you focus purely on the foreign scene?
The Czech scene is on a decline, in my opinion, and that it a great pity. There are enough online events both at top-gaming and at ESL, ready to be logged in. We want to focus on foreign league now and hopefully we will achieve.
So now that we are talking about it, what are the current team plans, what are you preparing for, what is your current goal?
We want to focus on ESL now, specifically on Go4Heroes. The goal now is mainly to train hard; we might have a boot camp in the summer but it is not certain yet.
You mentioned that you play on the position of support in the team. Would you tell us what does it entail in Heroes of the Storm, what is specific for your position?
It also depends a lot on the hero you play. But mostly you are trying to keep your players alive and hurt the opposing team as much as possible. As for the characters, I don’t have any which I would hate. I like them all, you could say that my favourite characters include all support heroes in Heroes of the Storm and I am looking forward the time when there will be some new ones.
What do you think is the main difference between HotS and other MOBA games? If you ever played LoL, Dota or HoN.
I have never played Dota and HoN. The only thing I know is Lol and the difference is really big there. In Heroes of the Storm it is a lot about team cooperation and teamwork. And if you don’t have items like in LoL, there are no last-hits as well as the first 10-15 minutes of the game. In HotS you are just getting experience for the whole team.
The final question for you, did you follow IEM Katowice? How would you comment on the Heroes of the Storm tournament and what do you overall think of an event of this calibre?
Unfortunately I only watched one / two matches because I had more important things to do over the weekend. Certainly, events of this calibre make Hots more visible and they can motivate some people to try to get there the next time too. Of course, we are going to try to be there next time too…
Now you have the space to convey to our readers and fans of HotS any message you like.
Thank you for the interview. The only thing I would like to say is: Don’t get thrown out of balance by some failures and go tenaciously after what you want.
